"If you don't love me at my worst, you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best"

I despise when people say that. It's just an excuse for your friends and acquaintances and romantic partners to treat you like shit, and then turn around and blame you for not "loving" them enough to put up with their unloving behaviour towards you.

You know what?

At our worst, every last one of us is a raving, egomaniacal, bloodthirsty murderer.

Doesn't mean I don't love you if you're a raving, egomaniacal murderer, but it does usually indicate that you're emotionally ill and if I respect and love myself won't subject myself to someone else's abuses, just to prove I "love them at their worst".

Fuck that.

Why don't you try loving me - and others - at your best? Why not accumulate good, loving memories instead of constantly testing the people around you with selfish unloving behaviour and creating bad memories they will remember for the rest of their lives?

So I edit:

"If you don't love me at your worst, you sure as heck don't deserve me at your best."

If you cannot lay down your arms and act with love towards others when you are filled with rage and inspired by hate, then you are not capable of loving someone unconditionally. Until you learn to do so, I do not want to subject myself to your unlove.
